Random I-Tunes Song of The Moment: Starlight by Taylor Swift

Tyler Sutter: Coin Thru Nose Review

One DVD, one effect and $35 bucks. Is it gem or is it rubble? Stay tuned to find out.

Effect

Two effects are taught. Both result in a coin really coming out of your nose. One effect is that a quarter is swallowed and then a moment later pulled from your nose with a pair of forceps. Another effect is that a dime is jammed into your eye and then without using your hands, the coin appears to make its way to your nose. It eventually falls out of your nose into your hand.

Method

The effects really are that . . . ahem . . . clean, if you will. The coins really do come out of your nose. Of course, their journey form mouth (or eye) to nose is not real, but it looks real. Using the methods taught on this DVD will convince your audience that you really did cause a coin to travel through your face (under the skin) to its final destination: your nose.

You really will be shoving coins in your nose. The DVD gives multiple warnings about the risks and dangers of doing this. I would certainly agree with their warnings. This is a dangerous thing to do, but of course, that's your call. As far as the methods go, this is 100% legitimate, however, you must be 18 or older, according to the DVD, to do this.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is beyond accurate. If anything, the video trailer under sold the effect. Due to the weird special effects that were applied to the footage, there were a few moments of the routine that were obscured. Usually this is done to make the effect look better. But in this case, you don't really experience how clean it truly is. The illusion is perfect, and unfortunately the video trailer doesn't do justice to how clean it is.

Product Quality

The DVD is very well produced, and everything you need to know to do this effect was taught in extremely close up and nauseatingly graphic detail. You'll become very intimate with the inside of Tyler Sutter's left nostril, and I'm pretty sure I'm now more familiar with the inside of his mouth than his dentist is.

In addition to the two different versions of coin to nose, an extremely powerful vanish is taught by Lonnie Lyeria. This is an amazingly clean bare handed, no sleeves vanish of dime that is impossible seeming. It's used in the context of a switch in this case, but whether you do the booger coin trick or not, you'll be learning a poweful coin vanish.

Final Thoughts

This effect is totally disgusting, and I would never in a million years do it. However, that has nothing to do with the quality of this product. It is exactly what it claims to be. It looks even better than the video trailer shows. The method makes the effect seem like the real deal, not a magic trick. The question for you is whether or not you want to do an effect like this, and if it's worth $35 bucks to learn it.

Final Verdict:
4.5 Stars with a Stone Status of Gem.

Like you, I can barely imagine anyone really wanting to do this, much less see this. Nonetheless, I’m gonna share it in various places to see how many people actually would want to see or learn this.

But I’ll always ask myself “Why?”

    • Jeff Stone says:

@Chetser – Why indeed brother, why indeed.

      • Chet Cox says:

At one point in time, I was gonna suggest (i.e. – bug the heck outta you) that everything you rated better than 4 stars should be carried in your store. I thought this might make you even tougher in your reviews. (At that time, I didn’t know just how tough you would get.)

After reading this review and imagining (I ain’t gonna watch their demo!) the effects, I’m glad you didn’t.

It’s undoubtedly a fooler and looks real. But – ecch!

        • Jeff Stone says:

@Chet – That was originally going to be my plan . . . a Store that only sold 4 star or better products. However, it came down to the fact that too many people would never believe that I’m unbiased if I have a financial interest in a product, so no store for Jeff other than my own personal products at Stone Cold Magic

  • Emory Kimbrough says:

“…or you can even have the spectator pull the coin OUT OF THEIR OWN NOSE.”

Proposed ad copy during negotiations to release the trick through SansMinds.

    • RLFrame says:

It’s ‘snot’ my type of effect, and if I tried to do it, I would likely booger it up.

      RLF

      • Jeff Stone says:

@RLF – I love that you said “booger it up.” My mom used to say that all the time when we were kids. I always thought it was a southern thing — she’s from Georgia.

    • Jeff Stone says:

@Emory – BAM! Good one brother. I’ve got a few more SansMinds in the Stack. We’ll see how they do.

  • Chet Cox says:

This effect may not be performed often, but the jokes will continue into eternity.

  • Jay Best says:

Challenge accepted!! This group of misfits needs a freak and/or geek and I volunteer for the job! I’m getting it, I will perform it, film the performance put it on Youtube and post a link here!

  • Jay Best says:

I have a pretty good cold going so should be interesting….

  • Jay Best says:

Okay deal. DVD came yesterday give me a week do prepare.

  • Mark Paulson says:

I love “in their hands” magic! Also, does the spectator take home a souvenir?

  • harsh says:

    hey jeff stone
is there a coin switch involved in both the tricks or either of the tricks and do we really have to put a coin inside our nose
and what should be the size of the coins used for the two effects since i am from India i do not know about the size of a dime or a quarter
    please help

    • Jeff Stone says:

The coin is really in your nose, as I explained in the review. As for methods, I don’t reveal methods. Sorry. The size of the coin: google is your friend. Google the size of American quarters.

  • Respect The Magic says:

This trick is disgusting and disturbing on a very high or low level, depending on one’s perspective. I personally love it and use it all the time. The impact is HUGE and makes people’s skin crawl. It is a 12 on a 1-10 cringe worthy scale. If you like twisted effects, and who doesn’t then, this is the trick for you. My advice: Don;t knock it until you try it.

I give this trick 10 boogers (one for each finger).

  • Cam Dix says:

I purchased “Coin Thru Nose” and am working on carefully learning to do it. I have purchased a lot of magic over the years. “Coin Thru Nose” is one of my favorite effects and the DVD is worth every penny spent to purchase it.

I’m a retired school teacher and over the years have seen some examples of great teaching among my colleagues and some examples that are not so great. Tyler Sutter is a fantastic teacher! He gives no shortage of information, is very clear in his instructions and is a very pleasant and entertaining fellow to learn from.

This effect takes some work to develop, both in handling skill and in presentation. But it is worth the effort. All too often now, magic is marketed, either directly or indirectly, as something you can perform the minute you buy it. That is sad. And it’s a loss to the art of magic in general.

I love magic. I love the “side-show”. I love “Coin Thru Nose”. Thank you.

  • Steve says:

I’m really thinking of buying this but I keep thinking…how about if it gets stuck up my nose or if I cause any damage to inside of nostrils. It seems scary wedging a coin up your nose…. I’ll probably buy it but won’t perform it.
