Magic Encarta: Quantum HD Review

Five red plastic things and $20 bucks. Is it gem or is it rubble? Stay tuned to find out.

Effect/Method

I'm not sure what to say here. There really isn't an effect or a method.

Ad Copy Integrity

I'm not sure if the ad copy is accurate or not. However, I am pretty sure that this is nothing like Batman's utility belt as they claim.

Product Quality

From what I can gather from the ad trailer, you can use these red plastic things to practice various cardistry moves, so I'll try to base my product quality assessment on that. The 5 plastic things do not come with any instructions, written or otherwise. However, I contacted the creator and he gave me a 4 ish minute video that walked through (silently) 3 or 4 cardistry things you can do with the plastic things.

The video was well shot, etc. I'm not sure how effect the teaching is. It's very difficult to learn something as advanced as Sybil in two minutes. As for the plastic things themselves, they're just hard plastic. They kind of tend to static cling to each other. I found them to be a bit awkward to manipulate. Also, I can do a handful of flourishy cuts/shuffles, etc. I could not do a single one of them with these plastic thingies.

Final Thoughts

This is the weirdest review I've ever done. I'm really not sure how to rate this thing. You're only supplied with the plastic thingies and nothing else. There are no instructions on what to do with them or how to do it. But just because I don't see the potential with them doesn't mean there isn't potential. There's nothing inherently wrong with them per se. Yet I'm still unclear what to do with them.

There is, of course, the issue that they tend to stick together (statically). The creator seemed to be very cooperative and willing to answer questions. When I asked what they were for, his response was, "Hi Jeff, these can be used for a lot of things. Primarily used to practice cardistry as well as moves such as the pass, can be used as a substitute for the Omni deck if you will, and even use 2 of these plates with a rubberband (sic) to protect your deck." That may be enough for you to decide.

Watch the trailer. If you think that they look interesting and you would want to use them, then get them. But due to the ambiguity of the product and the lack of anything other than 5 plastic thingies, I kind of have to go middle of the road here.

Final Verdict:
2.5 Stars with a Stone Status of Grubble?

My thought when I saw the ad trailer…”What’s it all about, Alfie?”
    I never got an answer.
I still can’t figure out what’s going on with the card appearing between the pink plastic things.
Think I’ll just keep my $20.

I always watch the trailers right before your review … and when I saw this one, I thought, “Hey, those are cardistry trainers – what a good idea.”

Then your review revealed the fact that what they’re really selling is HALF a product. I see that these might be good substitutes for a deck of cards while you’re learning complicated card moves – but to include no instruction is like selling a spoon and calling it a psychic development kit.

I see the potential in this product – but until there’s a solid resource for how to get the best use out of them, it remains an incomplete offering in my eyes.

    Hello,
This is vivek here and I appreciate the points you pointed out and would like to thank you guys for the feedback. This is my first product ever after a lot of thinking I put it out in the market and I really want my customers to be happy when they buy it. I had intended it only for people who knew cardistry and/or other stuff. But you guys have rightly pointed out and thank you @john for believing in my idea that this has potential.

I am working on a download that will now accompany this deck teaching cardistry, moves as well as a few effects and utilities so it can be truly called the Batman’s utility belt and I agree with Jeff as well for pointing out this.

The download will soon to be available and would try that people who have already purchased these receive these asap and will put this download free for all. As of now the download is at an estimated 30 minutes covering a total of 10 things comprising of utilities, moves, flourishes and magic ☺️

    Cheers

With Vivek’s further explanation, I can now see where he was going with this product. His added videos should help to greatly clarify the use of the product.
Also if there is a way to condition the plastic so they will not stick together and move more like a deck of cards that would be helpful, too.

  • Vivek Singhi says:

    Hi Bill,
The conditioning of gt deck is simple, just like a normal set of cards. Practice a few passes and shifts and the static goes away. The static in my view forms only when it’s new and unused. However, once you break in, these get pretty comfy for using. Hope that helps and you can expect the instructional video soon for free from the dealer you got it from and thank you for purchasing it.
That card appearing in between the Quantum HD plates is my take on the REL Change (palming required). I am just trying to show the potential and endless possibilities with it ☺️

What the heck is that all about??
    Limited edition?
Is it supposed to be an omni packet tricks???
I don’t even have an opinion on this one…
I mean I can bring out a whole lot of guesses about what it is but I think it should be mentioned in the ad copy…

    • Jeff Stone says:

      @Jordan – Yeah . . . this one lost me too.

    • Vivek says:

This link might help you understand better @jordan these are cardistry trainers and help you learn cardistry moves faster and easier without spoiling your decks

      • Jeff Stone says:

@Vivek – I get the concept. However, I don’t see this as easier. I found it to be much more difficult.

        • Vivek says:

I guess that’s the difference between the Quantum HD Trainers that I released a few years back to the new wood fiberboards which are super easy to handle, light weight, donot stick at all from the static that was there for Quantum HD as well πŸ™‚

          • Jeff Stone says:

@Vivek – I’m happy to give ’em another chance if you want me to review them. Facebook Message me, and I’ll give you my mailing address if you want me to review them.

  • Vivek says:

    Hi Jordan,
Just to keep you updated, these are the first set of cardistry trainers I created a few years back which I had released last year, which I later upgraded with a free 30 minute instructional video as well.

I have been working on improving trainers ever since post reviews and feedback and the current version on which I have been working on are almost ready, has 6 packets instead of the earlier 5, have got rid of the static by replacing acrylic with medium density fiberboards, which will be available in 5 different colors with custom tucks and will be available soon.
