Random I-Tunes Song of The Moment: Fallen Angel by Poison

Karl Hein: The Heinous Collection Review

Volume 3

One DVD, five "regular" effects, two "bonus" effects, 68 minutes and $35 bucks. Is it gem or is it rubble? Stay tuned to find out.

Effect/Method

With this DVD you'll learn five effects. All of them are practical and relatively easy in method. They are all very doable and legitimate methods. They clearly come from the repertoire of a working professional — Karl Hein. Grandmother's B.L.T. is an ending to a sandwich effect. Though he teaches his sandwich routine, the real purpose of this is to learn the ending. This is the kind of ending that will nail your magician buddies as well as your lay audience folk.

With Collecting Camaro, you're learning a routine that streamlines and combines a four Ace production with Triumph and a collectors effect. The method is direct and simple to do. Breaking the 2nd Rule is a clever and simple method of being super far ahead of your audience with a 3 phase card under box routine. Sublime is an ending for a multiple selection routine. He does it in the context of a three card selection.

The last "regular" effect, Hat Trick, is a three card selection effect where the cards each appear in his hat ending with a production of a water bottle (or whatever) from his hat.

The two bonus effects are Psychotic Prediction and Sponge Ball Prediction. The former is any three named cards to sealed envelope in wallet, and the latter is a way to cause the spectator to "choose" how many sponge balls will end up in their hand.

All of the "regular" effects are done with 3 (ish) cards selected. The ad copy refers to this DVD as a collection of multiple selection routines. However, don't be mislead by that. This is not the typical ten-cards-are-selected kind of routine. It feels more like a-couple-people-take-a-card. These are simple methods that you'll, likely, be able to learn quickly.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is totally accurate and legitimate. The end.

Product Quality

Well shot, lit, mic'd, etc. Easy to navigate. Everything is taught extremely well in great detail. Everything you need to know to learn these effects is taught well, and you'll easily be able to learn it.

Final Thoughts

If you even remotely like the sound of any of these effects, this one's a no brainer. Get it.

Final Verdict:
5 Stars with a Stone Status of GEM!

I’m so glad to see another 5 Star Review for Karl Hein. I only learned of his material last year when I attended his lecture (at the last minute). It turned out to be one of the better lectures I attended in 2014. He also offered a great package deal, so I bought all three volumes.

This DVD has a couple things I especially like: Hat Trick and Sponge Ball Prediction. I’m a sucker for hat tricks.

    Thanks for the review, Jeff.
