A mentalist, magician and psychic walk into a bar . . .

Okay. They didn't really walk into a bar; they hung out at the psychic's house and recorded a conversation. What you receive is the transcript of the recorded conversation. Based on Dan Cain's description of the book and the introduction in the book, he felt this was a very much needed book. His premise is that there is too much fighting between the three groups.

Because of this he gathered together one of each for an open candid conversation to help resolve the fighting. That's the premise. Unfortunately, however, I felt that the book didn't quite accomplish that goal. It was more like a friendly conversation about the three "areas" that occasionally touched on (very briefly) some of the differences between the three.

I just didn't feel like it went anywhere significant. I have to give Dan Cain credit for the effort and for the extremely reasonable price of $6. I've recently reviewed a 9 page e-book for $25 that had lots of white space on each page.

This on the other had some pretty good content and is very inexpensive. There were some interesting moments in the conversation, but it's basically a background on each person in the conversation along with a few sort of rambly conversations about various subjects related to magic, clowns, psychics, mentalists, etc. No real depth into anything, and definitely no real resolution. If the goal was to stop the fighting, I really don't see how this helps that effort.

On the other hand, I don't know that I feel there's as big of war as Dan feels, so I'm not sure how needed this kind of work was to start with. You may find some interest in this, and if you're somewhat curious, $6 bucks isn't a bad price to pay to satisfy curiosity.

2.5 Stars with a Stone Status of grubble.
